High Octane Petrol - Coryton

Efficiency for the future

Over several years, Concawe Special Task Force 20 have been tasked with demonstrating the potential vehicle efficiency benefits that could be directly attributed to the use of high octane petrol in current and future technology vehicles.

Coryton provided the expertise, fuels and analysis required at each of the three stages of this vehicle efficiency study, by producing fuels blended to the strict physical parameter limits set by the Concawe STF20 group.

It is often assumed that any CO2 saving achieved by operating a vehicle on high-octane petrol would be outweighed by the increased energy requirement, and therefore CO2 emitted, at the refinery. A complimentary study was undertaken by the Concawe Refining Technology Support Group to answer this question for a typical EU refinery.
